The Power of Dancing:
The Rebbe of Vildenik zy”a (Sefer Sheeris Yisroel) writes that Yom Kippur is the “Shabbos Shabason” that represents the “Olam Haneshamos”, the world of utter spirituality. However, Yom Kippurim is only “like Purim”. Purim itself is even more exalted. It is a day that is “kulo Shabbos”. On this day, we eat and drink and wear shoes while we dance, and we still reach a lofty level of holiness. This is hinted to in the verse (Shir Hashirim 7:2): “How beautiful are your footsteps in shoes.” Through dancing with our shoes on Purim, we can create wondrous tikkunim. He explains that when a doctor wants to heal a patient who has a fever, he prescribes medications consisting of heat, as only heat can heal heat. So too, on Purim we rectify the fact that we ran to do aveiros by using our feet to dance and rejoice.
Simchas Purim Affects the Entire Year:
Sefer Poras Yosef (page 166) quotes Rav Elkanah Halevi Krauss zt”l of Debretzin as saying that he once had a very difficult year, and he went to ask the Kossoner Rebbe zy”a to daven for him. The Rebbe told him, “Why didn’t you rejoice on Purim? The way you acted on Purim is the way the entire year went for you.”
