The Light of Purim

Living Jewish | February 28, 2026

Our Sages teach that when Moshiach comes, all the days of Yom Tov will cease to exist; only the Yom Tov of Purim will remain.

Chassidus explains that the holiness and joy of Purim are so great, that even when we have the holiness and joy of the redemption, Purim will still stand out.

In other words, the other days of Yom Tov will “cease to exist” in the same sense as a candle is not noticeable in the sunlight — its light is nullified by comparison with a much brighter light. Similarly, the light of the other days of Yom Tov will be nullified in comparison to the light of the redemption.

So too, the light elicited by the other festivals will pale in comparison with that elicited by Purim.
