What Purim Teaches Us

Havineini | February 28, 2026

This feeling that Hashem is always the address is something we learn through the mitzvos hayom of Purim—especially through giving to others, even when we don’t feel like it. This is when we internalize the feeling that the Ribbono shel Olam likewise loves us even after we have committed the gravest aveirah.

There are two options before a person after he has committed an aveirah: He can feel like a nothing. “No one needs me. I am a ba’al aveirah. I know it, you don’t need to tell me. I was told it already as a teenager. In fact, how can I even dare to daven to Hashem in such a state? I know who I am, and He certainly knows who I am.” This is one option.

But then there’s another way, and this is to understand the truth that the Ribbono shel Olam will always accept me and my tefillos, because He accepts those who have fallen. The Ribbono shel Olam will listen to me because תבזה לא אלקים ונדכה נשבר לב, Hashem will not denigrate or push away a broken and depressed heart! By fulfilling the mitzvos hayom of Purim—recognizing and awakening the eternal love that Hashem has for us—we will take this lesson to heart, always knowing that Hashem is always the address.
