PARSHAS TOLDOS 5786
And these are the offspring of Yitzchok son of Avrohom - Avrohom begot Yitzchok. (Bereishis 25:19)
Rashi in the beginning of Parshas Noach says “She’iker Toldoseihem shel Tzadikim Masim Tovim – The main creations of Tzadikim are good deeds”. Chazal teach us, that is the Pshat (meaning of “Vi’eileh Toldos Yitzchok ben Avrohom”. From this we mention the Masim Tovim - good deeds of Yitzchok – since Avrohom gave birth to Yitzchok. Since Yitzchok always remembered who his father is, that he has a great father, Avrohom.
Der Torah Kvall, Maharam M’Amshinov ZY”A
This Shabbos is a day of a few Yohrzeits, both of distant past and of the more recent time. Beis (the second day of) Kislev is the Yohrtzeit of Rav Meshulem Volf of Zebarish, the author of the Sefer Yosher Divrei Emes ZY"A. In it he quotes the "Divrei Torah" of The Baal Shem Tov ZY"A, his Talmud the Maggid of Mezeritch ZY"A, who he was Zoche (merited) to see, so too Rav Menachem Mendel of Pramishlan ZY"A, who he visited various times. And so too what he heard from the great Tzadik, son of a Tzadik, Rav Yechiel Michel of Zlotchiv ZY"A. This is all documented in the first Ois of Yosher Divrei Emes.
One may ask why is it necessary to document the "Yichus" (genealogy) of a Sefer when the author himself is of great virtue? The answer may be as follows. Rav Shlomo of Karlin amongst other Tzadikim ZY"A expound, that when one learns the Torah Hakedoshoh, he must see to it that it be with the Eimoh Viyiroh (awe and fear), as if the "Baal Hamemroh" (the one who is quoted) is standing in front of him. If we acknowledge Toras Hashem with this regard, our observance of Torah and Mitzvos will be of greater respect, to adhere as we are expected and not leniently.
Rav Aharon Kotler ZY"A, Rosh Yeshiva of Lakewood, whose Yohrtzeit is also on Beis Kislev was a "Flam Fire" when it came to Torah. Reb Leib Cywiak who was from the Rosh Yeshivas close confidents stated, "He was a man who was clean in his directives as in his acts. He was against the construction of an Eiruv in Manhattan for Shabbos. As he said, it is a Reshus Horrabbim DiOreissoh and the establishing of an Eiruv will not suffice. So, I once said to him, in Manhattan lives great rich religious Jews, why should your honor engage in a dispute, to stop them from an Eruv and that will damage the income of the Yeshiva as other Rabbonim are quarrying to look for leniencies?” The Goan heard, he was filled with emotion and answered. "Tisvatel HaYeshiva sheli, Midas Hahalocho sheli lo ezoz – My Yeshiva should cease to exist, from my Holochoh I shall not move".
First Sefer Zickoron, 2 Kislev 5724
So too was Rav Aharon’s stand regarding Lakewood NJ, for known reasons.
And these are the offspring of Yitzchok the son of Avrohom etc. (Bereishis 25:19)
The goal of Din – Judgement, referring to Yitzchok, is Chessed – Kindness, whom is the son of Avrohom.
Reb Bunim of Parshischoh ZY"A - Pninei HaToroh
A family was traveling from Monsey to Lakewood on a winter Erev Shabbos in Teves 5741. They left at 12 pm, giving them enough time to arrive at more than enough time before Shabbos. The driver got lost on the way, (please note this was before GPS & Cellphone era). One of the parents asked the driver to please return to Monsey. But the driver insisted, and upon calling his brother from a phone at the toll booth, was told that there was enough time to still reach Lakewood with ample time. So, they continued travelling. As they continued it started snowing heavily, and they realized they would not make it. One of the sons however noticed a sign on the highway which said, “Union City”. They first stopped at a gas station which had a phone, but none of the people they knew answered. As they got closer to Union City, they stopped at a second gas station, which had a phone book, and they called a person they knew. The person answered and said, “it is a Neis (miracle) you are calling me now, as five minutes ago I was not home and in five minutes I wouldn’t be home. But I have an apartment in which you can stay.” So, they came to the host, and luckily, they also had a package of meat etc. which their butcher sent for his children in Lakewood, (which came to good use). They enjoyed Shabbos in the apt., also using a neighbors apt., for the driver. The upstairs neighbor, a relative to the host, also helped with food, etc... This was all after they were imagining spending Shabbos at a Hotel on the highway with nine children. They enjoyed a wonderful Shabbos in Union City. The Kluasenberger Rebbe ZY”A (who resided in Union City) gave the boys Brochos. The Rebbe had told the host on Erev Shabbos, when he asked him if he should stay home, or spend Shabbos in the hospital, as he was just Benched (blessed) with a newborn baby, the Rebbe answered “Toldoseihem Shel Tzadikim Ma’asim Tovim”. To which the host understood that he should stay home. (The visitor exclaimed to me “Wow did he have Ma’asim Tovim”.) A short time after that the host also had triplets! - Toldoseihem Shel Tzadikim...
As heard from the guest, a relative of mine
