קול רם
28:2 “קום לך פדנה ארם ביתה בתואל אבי אמך וקח לך משם אשה מבנות לבן אחי אמך” – “Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Besuel your mother’s father, and take a wife from there from the daughters of Lavan your mother’s brother.” Yaakov Avinu went into the “Parshah” of Shidduchim when he was 63 years old. Why did he wait until he was so old? Why was it only at the time that Yaakov needed to flee from Eisav that Yitzchok told him to get married? Why didn’t Yitzchok send Yaakov to Lavan when he was forty, the age that Yitzchok got married? We see from here the importance of Yaakov remaining with his father Yitzchok, for Yitzchok was teaching Yaakov Torah, and there needed to be a very good reason to leave. In order for the Shivtei Koh to come from Yaakov, he needed to be worthy of it. When Yaakov had to leave Yitzchok because he feared for his life from Eisav, it was a good time for him to head to Lavan to get married. However, Yaakov did not feel prepared to be in the surroundings of the evil Lavan, and he stopped off in the Yeshiva of Eiver for fourteen years, so that he could be well prepared. The Torah Hakdosha creates a fence around a person, so that even when he is in a toxic environment, he can still retain his Ruchniyos. However, the more toxic the place will be, the more Torah one must have been prepared with in order to be truly protected. By the time Yaakov Avinu reached the house of Lavan, he was totally insulated from the toxic surroundings and remained pure and holy. Thus, he was able to get married, and to have holy children, the Shivtei Koh.
