The Russians were after the great Novardekor Reb K. G. (who became a big rav in America after the war), and drafted him into the army. But when he showed up, he saw that the situation was "not exactly befitting" for a yeshiva bachur...so he "left"(!)... The days went by, but he didn't find any food to eat: "What can be done? No problem, let's just go back to the army, and ask for food!"(!) (When you learn a lot of mussar on bitachon, you live in a different world, and are able to do things that others cannot). He went back, and was about to knock on the general's door...but then he caught himself: "What, ask a basar vidam for food?! I ask only Hashem!" With that he "left" again, and...went back to yeshiva(!). Some time passed, and the Alter came over to him: "Someone named Avraham Leichter* is "stuck" in the army, and needs someone to get him out..." "No problem," and he went back into the lion's den, found "a needle in a haystack", and snuck back out, back onto the train. Just another day of really believing in Hashem and not being so "impressed" by teva and laws of nature...
