This is why the sichos of Rebbe Nachman are so important. Almost everything that Rebbe Nachman says in Sichos HaRan is somehow connected to a teaching in Likutei Mohoran. The true source of these conversations comes from the amazing wisdom of Rebbe Nachman’s Torah. However, at the same time, the sichos serve the crucial purpose of giving us the “bottom line” of chassidus and Kabbalah.
In other words, the sichos give over the essence of the Zohar, Arizal, and Baal Shem Tov in a very clear, simple way that shows us the deeper meaning of life without causing us any confusion or doubts. With the basic understanding of just a few foundational ideas – such as the concept of nitzotzos (sparks of kedushah), the love and awe of Hashem, etc. – we can receive the awesome light of penimiyus haTorah from the conversations of Rebbe Nachman in an “air-tight” package that doesn’t leave us with any questions.
Through this, it is possible for us to come to a deep understanding of the existence of Hashem. It is possible for us to think about His Oneness and serve Him with passion. These clear and “distilled” teachings of the hidden Torah can save us from our temptations and help us to do teshuvah.
Then, after we acquire the knowledge of these concepts in a simple, practical way, we can go deep into the sefarim that expand the teachings of chassidus and not get lost. Even when we can’t think so clearly and a question arises in our learning, nonetheless, since we already have a solid foundational understanding of life, we can let go of our question and maintain our attachment to Hashem. Once we have a connection to the “bottom line” of penimiyus haTorah, we don’t feel the need to comprehend everything before we daven to Hashem with inspiration, fight with the yetzer, and serve Hashem with love and awe. Rather, we have chiyus and joy in our avodah even without a complete understanding of chassidus and Kabbalah.
