The Unique Avodah of Moshe and the Power of Torah

Now, even though the ‘Avodah’ of our three Patriarchs in the three [aforementioned] strands (of Love, Fear and Mercy) is a very high spiritual level of ‘Avodah’, nevertheless, this ‘Avodah’ alone does not cause a person to achieve self-nullification, as is immediately understood from the fact that there are three distinct separate strands; whereas the ‘Avodah’ of Moshe is an ‘Avodah’ of absolute self-nullification.

All this explains why it was Moshe who gave us the Torah (as previously mentioned). This is because through learning Torah truthfully one attains absolute self-nullification, so that one becomes completely nullified and becomes one entity with Hakodosh Boruch Hu, the Giver of the Torah, as it is explained in Tanya, that through studying Torah an incredible Union is formed, another unity does not exist like it nor is even comparable to this unity which is that of a person who studies Torah together with Hakodosh Boruch Hu the Giver of the Torah, and when his spiritual ‘Avodah’ is in a state of absolute ‘Bittul’ then one remains above the differences of the three above-mentioned ‘Middos’.

(And the result is) that his ‘Avodah’ rises above the ‘Avodah’ of those three ‘Middos’ which were mentioned earlier. And this is also why the Possuk says: וְאָהַבְתָ אֵת ה׳ אֱלֹקֶיךָ בְכָל לְבָבְךָ וּבְכָל נַפְשְךָ וּבְכָל מְאֹדֶךָ “And you shall love HaShem, your G-d, with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your means.” The love of “all your heart” and with “all your soul” is associated with...
