Rav Meir of Premishlan zy”a asks why the punishment for this sin is so severe that “Hashem will not forgive” anyone who does it. Doesn’t teshuva help for all sins?
He answers that whenever one commits an aveirah, it is written in the Sefer Hazichronos. For example, if one eats something forbidden, it is written: “So-and-so ate such-and-such.” When the individual does teshuva, that line is erased from the book. However, if one sins by saying Hashem’s name in vain, it is written in the Sefer Hazichronos: “So-and-so said His name in vain.” Even if he does teshuva, this line cannot be erased, as the name of Hashem, which is written in the book, cannot be erased. Therefore, this sin can never be fully removed.
