On the words of the Possuk in Bamidbar (27:20) וְנָתַתָה מֵהוֹדְ ךָ עָלָיו לְמַעַן יִשְמְעוּ כָל־עֲדַת בְנֵי יִשְ רָאֵל “You shall bestow some of your majesty upon him so that all the congregation of the B’nei Yisroel will take heed.” Rashi says on the words מֵהוֹדְ ךָ “But not all of your majesty. Thus, we learn that the face of Moshe was radiant like the sun, whereas the face of Yehoshua was like the moon”. — [Sifrei Pinchas 23, b.b. 75a] Sifsei Chachomim explain: The face of Moshe was like the sun. Meaning: The face of Moshe shone more than that of Yehoshua. There are those who explain that like the sun takes its light from Hashem and the moon takes light from the sun, so too Moshe took the rays of light which shone from Hashem’s face, and Yehoshua took them from Moshe.
