Think Good and it Will Be Good

Chassidic Story | June 27, 2025

Once a Chassid gave the Tzemach Tzedek a written note about one of his children. The doctors said the boy had only a few hours to live. When the Chassid handed the note to the Rebbe, he thought “Who knows what is with my son right now? He only had hours left!” And the Chassid burst out in tears.

The Rebbe read the note and said to him “Don’t cry! Arouse your innate power of certainty in the salvation of Hashem [bitochon] and have simple faith that the Holy One blessed be He, will save your child. Think good and it will be good, and you will merit to celebrate the Bar Mitzvah of his sons! “

Our Rebbe tells us the source of the instruction to “think good and it will be good” is in the Zohar. The Zohar declares that the lower world initiates and the supernal world responds according to the “face” that is communicated from below to above. If the lower face shines, it is answered by “a shining face” from the heavenly countenance above, and if the lower countenance is in a mode of depression, the “supernal man” responds with strictness and judgment. Based on that teaching, the Zohar instructs us to always, “Serve Hashem with simcha!”

So by expressing joy and happiness in Hashem in this world, we cause joy and happiness to descend from on high.
