Yosef told his brothers that they shouldn’t worry about any evil that they are afraid he would do to them, since a human is powerless, and Hashem is the only one who controls the world. It is striking how Yaakov Avinu used these same words when Rochel demanded from him: הָּבָּה לִּי בָּנִּים וְאִּם אַיִּן מֵתָּה אָּנֹכִּי ל “Give me children, or else I will die!” Yaakov was upset, and he said: הֲתַחַת אֱלֹקִּים אָּנֹכִּי “Am I Hashem??”, and the Seforno says that Yaakov felt it wasn’t Kavod Shamayim to blame a human for any evil.
It would sound like Rochel was M'kabel (accepted) this Mussar from Yaakov, and Yosef inherited it from his mother. Perhaps this is why he remained on such a high level of Emuna throughout his life, like when he told Paroh: בִּלְעָּדָּי אֱלֹקִּים יַעֲנֶה אֶת שְׁלוֹם פַרְעֹה “Not I; rather Hashem will decipher Paroh’s dream”. Notice how Yosef doesn’t see people, including himself. He gives Hashem credit for every Chochma that he has, and every good move he ever made in his life.
Despite raving over your Maalos, if you give all the credit to Hashem, you are still an Anav.
We have very important Nekudos (points) in Emuna that Yosef HaTzaddik is very involved in. Whatever I do isn’t really me, and other people can’t hurt me, since they are only puppets in the hands of Hashem. Yosef is totally fearless and almost reckless. He knows that his life is in Sakana (danger), and Yehuda is just about ready to destroy the whole Mitzrayim, and yet, he keeps teasing Yehuda for the Ma'aseh (episode of) Tamar, and Shimon and Levi for the Ma'aseh (episode of) Shechem. (Chazal).
This incited them and he was playing with fire, but he was as calm as can be. לֹא אַתֶם שְׁלַחְתֶם אֹתִּי הֵנָה כִּי הָאֱלֹקִּים It is not you who sent me down here, it was only Hashem. People cannot hurt him, ever! They simply don’t count. This is true Malchus, like Dovid HaMelech who said: כִּי ה' אָּמַר לוֹ קַלֵל Hashem sent him to curse me. Dovid refused to kill Shim’i ben Gera, since Shim'i didn’t really count; only Hashem. This is real Malchus; being “above” Olam HaZeh, like oil (which a Melech is anointed with) which floats on “top” of other liquids.
Yehuda was also fearless; he was ready to destroy the entire Mitzrayim, with Yosef and Paroh included. (Rashi). Of course, the other Shevotim were also like this, and they kept saying: מַה זֹאת עָּשָּה אֱלֹקִּים לָּנוּ “What reason has Hashem brought this upon us?” and didn’t blame the Egyptian viceroy (Yosef) standing in front of them. But we can suggest that Yehuda and Yosef were even less concerned about humans.
Look how Yehuda was M'vazeh himself: בִּרַבָּים in public, when he said: צָּדְקָּה מִּמֶנִּי “Tamar is right!”, and Dovid would be M'vazeh himself when he danced excessively before Hashem. Yosef had: שִּׁם שָּׁמַיִם שָּׁגוּר פִּבְיו the name of Hashem on his lips always, and every move he made he had Hashem involved, since he believed that a human doesn’t really do anything without Hashem making it happen.
This is a lifetime job for us, to sit down regularly and take apart all the details of our lives, and to see Hashem in everything. Hashem gave me this wife, and He made her angry or nice today, etc. He sent me so-and-so to see if I would be jealous or angry or nice to him. Every inch of your life is a test, to see if you realize it’s all Hashem testing you.
When this is done regularly, it kills anger and fear, and all kinds of unwanted Sin'ah and Kin'ah, etc. When Yosef said: חֵי פַרְעֹה I swear in the life of Paroh, he made a fake: שְׁבוּהעָּ oath: “Just like Paroh’s life isn’t worth anything, so is my: שְׁבוּהעָּ oath, worthless". (Rashi). He was Mamash playing a game with the fake characters that we are so petrified of.
