Chacham Salman Mutzafi

The famed Iraqi Kabbalist was born 27 Shevat 5660 in Baghdad. On 15 Elul 1935 תרצ"ה he and his family moved to Eretz Yisroel. He was a disciple and talmid of the mekuablim Rav Chaim Shaul haKohen Dweck and Rav Yehuda Fatiya. He studied Siddur haRashash under Rav Yaakov Monse. Although he later testified regarding himself that he had studied the Etz Chaim for 20 years back in Baghdad, after having immersed himself for hours at a time studying Siddur haRashash until he would often faint with exhaustion or cough up blood, he testified that all those twenty years of sharp bekiyus compared to the 2 years of studying Rashash in Yerushalayim were "like a monkey copying a human, whoever has not seen the light of the sun.

He founded the yeshiva Bnei Tzion for the study of Zohar and Kabbalah, originally located near kever Rachel later relocated to Mekor Baruch neighborhood of Jerusalem. His son the Rosh Yeshiva Rav Ben Tzion Mutzafi heads yeshiva Bnei Tzion. His daughter married the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat haShalom the mekubal Rav David Batrzi.

He passed away on 17 Teves 5735 and was laid to rest on Har Menuchos.
