“כי ברך אברכך והרבה ארבה את זרעך ככוכבי השמים וכחול אשר על שפת הים” – “For I will bestow My blessing upon you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars of the heaven and the sands of the seashore.” Why does this Posuk use double Leshonos – “ברך אברכך”, “והרבה ארבה”? Everything in this world has a חיצוניות and a פנימייות – an outside and an inside – which is נסתר ונגלה – hidden and revealed. Every time that Hakodosh Boruch Hu gave a Havtacha, guarantee, it was comprised of נסתר, which was good for the Neshama, and נגלה which was good for the body. Hakodosh Boruch Hu gave Avrohom Avinu a Havtacha that his descendants would be as many as the stars. The Posuk uses a double Lashon for there are two things which would happen: נגלה ונסתר – hidden and revealed. Every Yid will be so important that he will be compared to many people, meaning one Yid may be compared to hundreds of people, or even thousands of people, as it says in the Yalkut Shimoni at the end of Sefer Shmuel 2, and in the Pirkei D’rebbe Eliezer 43 on the words, “שבעים אלף איש” – seventy thousand men – that this is referring to one person, Avishai, who in his righteousness was considered to be like seventy thousand people. In addition, there would be the revealed aspect, that there would be many physical bodies of Klal Yisroel. The concept of חיצוניות ופנימיות applies to all Mitzvos. Shabbos has the חיצוניות of Oneg Shabbos that is revealed, such as eating and drinking, wearing nice special clothing, resting from work, having more delights than during the week. The פנימיות part of Shabbos Kodesh is the Oneg for the Nefesh, the delight for the soul, with the additional Nefesh, Ruach, and Neshama that one has on Shabbos Kodesh. This is why in Kabbolas Shabbos we say, “בואי כלה” twice out loud, and once quietly. The two times out loud are K’neged the part of the חיצוניות of Shabbos, which is revealed, relevant to the Guf. The two חיצוניות are the resting from Melachah, from work – which is the שב ואל תעשה, rest and do not work. The other part of the חיצוניות is the Oneg Shabbos of eating and drinking, which is קום ועשה, get up and do. Then we recite it quietly K’neged the פנימיות, which is the Oneg for the Nefesh, connected to the added Kedusha of the Neshama Yeseira – Shabbos Kodesh, all about the Kedusha of Shabbos.
