“ארדה נא ואראה הכצעקתה הבאה אלי עשו כלה, ואם לא אדעה” – “If they acted in accordance with its outcry which came to me – then destruction, and if not I will know.” The Malachim were sent to destroy Sedom, though it wasn’t confirmed that Sedom would be destroyed. If Sedom would be as per the complaints against it, then it would be destroyed, but if not, it would not be destroyed. The Malachim went to Sedom, and their presence was to be Misorer what was deep down inside of Sedom. Was there any goodness there that would come out with the Kedusha of the Malachim there? Had it brought out goodness, that would have meant that there was hope for the people there, and they would not have been destroyed. However, when the Malachim came to Sedom, nothing was awakened within the people of Sedom, and thus they were destroyed. While this did not work for Sedom, we see that it did work for Lot. Lot had separated himself from Avrohom Avinu, was suspected of stealing and performing immoral acts, and because he wanted to lead his life in this way, he went to Sedom. Nonetheless, when the Malachim came, it was Nisorer, awakened, within him the goodness that was there, and he was ready to be Moser Nefesh to perform the Mitzvah of Hachnosas Orchim. Rashi tells us that Lot learned from the house of Avrohom Avinu to tend to guests -to perform the Mitzvah of Hachnosas Orchim. Rashi is telling us that although Lot separated himself from Avrohom, deep within him, there was still goodness burning within him, and when the Malachim came, it awakened it, and brought it out. Within Lot was the Neshama of Dovid Hamelech (Dovid Hamelech came from him). It was hidden, but the burst of Kedusha from the Malachim brought it out. The Zohar Hakodosh says, (it is said in כגוונא on Leil Shabbos Kodesh – Nusach Sefard) “וכלהון מתעטרין בנשמתין חדתין” – “And they all crown themselves with additional souls which are new” – Shabbos comes with great Kedusha, and the opportunity to awaken every person. Every Yid’s פנימיות, his insides, are certainly good – and thus that goodness must be awakened by the Kedusha of Shabbos. Chazal tell us that even an עם הארץ, an ignorant Yid, has fear of Shabbos and won’t lie on Shabbos. Shabbos is a time when each person can know where he truly stands in regards to Ruchniyos and Kedusha, as Shabbos Kodesh removes the barriers, and brings forth what is hidden. This is similar to what the Seforim say in the name of the Arizal that on Rosh Hashanah, at the time of Din, great feelings and emotions enter the heart of a person, and are Misorer him, arouse him, to cry. One who is not aroused to cry then, it is a sign that his Neshama is not purified.
