Parshas Vayeira and the Birthday of the Rebbe Rashab

Chabad.org Luach | December 08, 2025

Parshas Vayeira, 17 Marcheshvan, 5786
20 Marcheshvan, 5786

Today’s haftorah ends with the words vatisa es benah vateitzei (II Melachim 4:37).

Today is the birthday of the Rebbe Rashab. He was born in the year 5621 (1860) in Lubavitch.

“Today, the mazal of the Rebbe Rashab, a nossi hador, is strengthened. This, in turn, strengthens the avodah of every chossid and Jew, and through them—the entire world.” (Sefer Hasichos 5748 vol. 1, p. 70)

Today is a time to make hachlatos to add in learning Chassidus, especially the maamorim of the Rebbe Rashab.

In 5749 the Rebbe instructed all those who live in a city with a Tomchei Temimim yeshivah to visit the building over the course of the day and do activities associated with the three pillars of Torah, avodah and gemilus chassadim: to daven or say Tehillim, especially the Rebbe Rashab’s new kapitel (kapitel tes); to learn some of the Rebbe Rashab’s torah; and to give tzedakah to a mosad that operates in the Rebbe Rashab’s spirit. If there is no such yeshivah in your city, do these activities in a similar building, such as a Chabad House.

Additional Notes:

It is worthwhile and proper that among the topics learned from the teachings of the birthday celebrant, one should also study the kuntres 'Heichaltzu', through which love and unity among Jews is increased, as explained at length in this kuntres (see Sefer Hasichos 5749, referenced in the footnote).
