Without Our Gedoylim

Divrei Hisoirerus | December 31, 2025

On Purim, a year and a half ago, we were suddenly left as a dor yasom. From one minute to the next we lost our great leader R’ Chaim Kanievsky. Tragically, his successor, R’ Gershon Edelshtein was snatched away from us shortly thereafter, and now, in the middle of the worst crisis since the Holocaust, we lost our great leader the Rosh Yeshiva, R’ Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi. We do not know cheshbonos shamayim, why we no longer merit to have our gedolim, and why we suffered such a great loss during such a difficult time. However, during the times of Mordchai and Esther we saw that a tzarah is sometimes necessary so that Klal Yisrael do not put their trust in anything, not even in the gedolim - only in Hashem.

As we go deeper into ikvesa d’meshicha, as the signs of Mashiach come thick and fast, all of the things upon which we have relied, all of those things in which we trust, are falling to the side. Absent financial stability, security, leadership, and sadly, our gedolim, we are forced instead into the waiting arms of our beloved Father.
