Vayeshev | Joy — Remedy for Every Ill
Illuminating teachings and insights on the weekly Parsha of Rabbi Yoram Michael Abargel Zt”l. From the weekly lessons of his son Rabbi Yisrael Abargel Shlita.
In this week’s Parsha, we learn about the many hardships that befell Yosef HaTzaddik. He was hated by his brothers, thrown into a pit, sold as a slave, and later imprisoned in Egypt. Despite all these tribulations, Yosef remained steadfast in his faith and maintained his joy.
The Power of Joy
Our Sages teach that joy is the remedy for every ill. When a person is beset by troubles, the Yetzer Hara tries to bring him to sadness and despair. But if he strengthens himself with joy, he can overcome any challenge. Joy opens the gates of salvation and brings a person closer to Hashem.
Rabbi Yoram Michael Abargel Zt”l would often say that even in the darkest moments, a Jew must find reasons to rejoice. Whether it is through gratitude for the smallest blessings or through the study of Torah, joy is the key to spiritual and physical healing.
Practical Advice
How can one attain joy in difficult times? The answer lies in emunah (faith) and bitachon (trust) in Hashem. By recognizing that everything comes from Above and is for our ultimate good, we can find peace and happiness even amidst suffering. Additionally, engaging in acts of kindness, prayer, and Torah study infuses the soul with light and joy.
May we merit to emulate Yosef HaTzaddik, to remain joyful in all circumstances, and to see salvation and blessing in our lives.
