Short and Sweet Story

Torah Sweets | December 10, 2025

One night, a Jew passed by a certain home and saw a home with the windows completely covered in black from the inside. He turned to his friend and said, “You see how dark it looks; how you can’t see anything inside at all? That means that this house has an incredibly powerful lamp; one that’s brighter than all the others.” The smaller you may feel, the darker and the more you feel that you are nobody, that is an indication of the brightness you have, of the power of the innate goodness within you. The more insignificant you may feel, the more significant you really are. The magnitude of our challenges is a sign of the magnitude of our greatness.

You know where you can find that a day’s worth of oil lasts for eight? The place where you find a few people standing up against thousands of soldiers. The place where people are willing to look for oil to light up a cheap, flimsy Menorah. The place where people are choosing to look for the light in a world gone dark. That’s the place where miracles happen - in the bush of roses amongst the thorns.
