5749–1988, during a talk about educating children to give charity, the Rebbe emphasized that while every mitzvah should be done promptly and eagerly, it is especially important that charity be given with alacrity. Citing a Talmudic teaching that charity must be given immediately, since the poor person may not be able to wait, he explained that, unlike most mitzvot, no blessing is recited before giving charity — in part so that the act should never be delayed, even for the brief time it would take to say a blessing. 23 Kislev
