Mivtza Tefillin

Rebbe Responsa | June 27, 2025

The various merits of the Tefillin Campaign

By the Grace of G-d

Mr. Shraga Faivel Zeidel
824 - 46th Street
Brooklyn, N. Y. 11220

Greeting and Blessing:
Through Rabbi Moshe Feller your donation was duly received and earmarked for the Tefillin Campaign. Receipt is enclosed herewith.

I was particularly gratified to hear from Rabbi Feller about your efforts to stimulate fulfillment of the Mitzvo of Tefillin. For, in addition to the great importance of this Mitzvo itself, we also have the assurance of our Sages that, “One Mitzvo brings another in its train.”

If this is true of any Mitzvo, how much more so of the Mitzvo of Tefillin, of which it is said that the whole Torah was equated with Tefillin.

Moreover, it has also been pointed out that there are altogether only three Mitzvoth which are considered a “sign” between G-d and the Jewish people, and they are Shabbos, Tefillin and Mila (circumcision). Even when one persuades a fellow Jew to put on Tefillin only once, it is a great accomplishment for both, for the Rambam had ruled that putting on Tefillin even once already takes a Jew out of the very lowly state of a person whose “skull has never worn Tefillin (Rosh Hashono 17a).” All the more so, however, that the person will most likely put on Tefillin more than once, and that this Mitzvo will in turn lead him to the fulfillment of other Mitzvoth, as mentioned above.

Avos 4:2.

See Kiddushin 35a.

Mishneh Torah, Hilchos Teshuvah, 3:5.

May G-d grant that you should have good news to report about your Hatzlocho in your Tefillin activity, as well as in general bringing Jews closer to their Father in Heaven through the fulfillment of the Mitzvoth in the daily life, in actual practice and conduct, for the essential thing is the deed. The Zechus Horabim will surely aid you.
With blessing,
