Rav Yisrael Ephraim Fischel Sofer (Schreiber) Av Beis Din of Nanash (Hajdunanas) (Kislev 15, 5659 / 1898 - 125th Yahrzeit)

Born around May 1822, to Rav Tzvi Hirsh Sofer of Sarospatak a descendant of Rav Shaul Wohl Katzenellenbogen. Rav Yisroel Efraim Fischel Sofer was one of the last talmidim of the Chasam Sofer and a chassid of the Yetev Lev. He served as AvBeisDin of Nanash (Hajdunanas) for fifty years, he was laid to rest there after his passing on 15 Kislevט״ו כסלו תרנ״ט 5659. He authored the sefer Afsei Eretz. His son, Rabbi Shalom Sofer (1855–1929) was the Chief Rabbi in Berezne, Ukraine. His son-in-law, Rabbi Ben-Zion Halpert (died 1918) succeeded him as Chief Rabbi in Hajdúnánás.
