The gemara tells us that the world continues to exist only in the merit of the words of Torah the schoolchildren utter as they study (הבל תינוקות של בית רבן).
R' Aharon Kotler asks that if a katan is exempt from mitzvos, that means he is not fulfilling the mitzva of limud hatorah. If that is the case then how does the world exist on their Torah?
The answer is that the existence of the world is not for the mitzva of learning Torah but for the learning itself. Learning Torah is so powerful whether it is a mitzva or not.
