Returning to Hashem

Novardok weekly | December 10, 2025

On the Parsha:

"Returning to Hashem" By Rabbi Yisrael Zilberberg shlit"a of the International Organization dedicated to spreading the Torah of the Zerah Shimshon z"l

("Return Israel until Hashem, for you have stumbled with your sin. Take with you words and return to Hashem..." From the Haftorah).

Asks the Zerah Shimshon: First, why does the verse begin in the singular form (shuva), and then switch to plural (k'chu...v'shuvu...)? Second, what are these "words" that the verse tells us to take? And third, why does the verse first say return "until" (ad) Hashem, and then say return "to" (el) Hashem?

Says the Zerah Shimshon: There are two types of returning to Hashem. The first type is through fear of Hashem, whereas the second, higher level is through a burning love of Hashem. Now, when a person is motivated "negatively", out of fear of Hashem, that person remains self-centered, and only he individually returns to Hashem. However, when a person is motivated "positively", out of great love of Hashem, then he automatically becomes an Avraham Avinu, and "spreads the wealth" as much as possible! (And that is why the verse begins in the singular and just says "until" Hashem, and finishes with the higher level of plural and "to" Hashem, and "with words" meaning the teaching of others how great Hashem is!)

Story:

G.S. did not like this time of year (or any other time...) to say the least. Long davening, depression, negativity, pressure, "fright"...Until the Novardokers got a hold of him and beat him over the head (just joking), and taught him that the number-one yisod of serving Hashem is: Be happy! Chill out! Don't be so "frum"! Enjoy this time of year, and find the way that works for you and actually brings you closer to Hashem, in a happier and healthier way.

Question:

Advice to merit to the best "judgement" possible.

Answer:

Says the Navi (Nechemia 8:10): "Eat fat foods and drink sweet drinks"! Enjoy life! Show Hashem how much you appreciate all the tremendous good that He is constantly doing for you, and thank Him for it. "Meditate" on all the goodness and miracles (like 29,000 rockets and missiles that did absolutely nothing), and feel just how much Hashem is and will always take the most perfect care for you, with absolutely nothing to worry about whatsoever, with no exceptions to the rule.

Spreading Hashem's Wonders: (see Tehilim 105:2)

  • Awareness is spreading about the 100% goodness and positivity of Hashem, and how we will all merit to receive Moshiach in perfect health, speedily in our days, with nothing to worry about whatsoever, and absolutely no exceptions to the rule.
  • Thirty multi-story terrorist buildings destroyed in Gaza City, along with other terrorist sites.
  • Many Hezbollah positions destroyed.
  • Leader of the Mujahideen terrorist organization eliminated, after the three previous leaders had met their demise.

Thank you Hashem!
