There are restaurants that serve foods in the style of traditional Jewish foods, but they are not Kosher. Just because it’s Gefilte fish, Kugel or Israeli food, this does NOT mean that the food is Kosher! If the restaurant does not have reliable Rabbinic supervision to ensure that the ingredients are Kosher and the food is prepared according to Jewish law, it is not Kosher no matter how “authentic” it tastes. On the other hand, exotic foods made under reliable Kosher supervision are Kosher even if they are not traditional foods. ALWAYS check for a valid, up-to-date Kosher certificate before eating in a restaurant, even if it has a Mezuzah and serves traditional foods!
