The war with Amalek is from generation to Generation. Amalek is one who recognizes G-d but nevertheless intentionally seeks to defy Him
The Torah commands us to “remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt” — “asher korcho baderech” (he met you and attacked you on the way). The word “korcho” also means “krirus” (coldness), i.e., Amalek wanted to make you “cold”; to quell the enthusiasm and fervor of the Jewish people on their way to receive the Torah.
When the Jewish people went out of Mitzrayim, they were endowed with emunah (faith) in G-d, as our Sages tell us, “By virtue of their faith were our forefathers redeemed from Egypt.” The Jewish people had simple faith.
Amalek, because of his arrogance and chutzpah, could not tolerate all the miracles that G-d had performed for the Jewish people and confronted them in order to cool-off and mitigate the intensity of their simple faith.
Since Amalek has no redeeming qualities, he must be totally erased from under the heaven.
Within everyone there is an inner “Amalek” which tries to do the same on a spiritual dimension.
We are commanded to eradicate this personal Amalek “in every generation.” When this is done with total “kabolas ol” (acceptance of Heavenly authority), then “emunah p’shutah” (simple faith) will pervade our entire being, making everything we do consistent with our faith.
