Halacha Jewish Law

Novardok weekly | December 07, 2025

Question:

Halacha (Jewish law).

Answer:

Get yourself a rebbi that speaks to your neshama, and don't let go! (And remember that Hashem is the "true" rebbi, see Shomer Emunim.) Find for yourself the way that makes you a happier and healthier person with a closer connection to Hashem.

By the way: Did you know that Rebbi Simcha Zelig Reiger z"l hy"d, the moreh tzedek of Brisk under Rebbi Chaim Brisker z"l (his rebbi in Volozhin) and the Brisker Rav z"l, was known to be from the most lenient rabanim in Europe? And so much so, that people would joke that one could "permit" any chicken in Europe with a sfeik sfeika ("double doubt"): First, perhaps the chicken is kosher, and second, even if not, perhaps Rebbi Simcha Zelig would permit it...

The Aruch haShulchan (Rebbi Yechiel Michel Epshtein z"l, rav of Novardok) as well was known for his koach diheiteira ("lenient streak"). (It is known how much Rebbi Moshe Feinshtein z"l held of the sefer in particular).

For so many people today, the biggest "chumra" ("stringency") and "kabala" they could possibly take on would be to...enjoy life! Feel loved by Hashem, which is number-one! (And watch the miracles roll-in!)
