בן איש חי – 33:11
“קח נא את ברכתי אשר הבאת לך כי חנני אלקים וכי יש לי כל” – “Please accept my gift which was brought to you, inasmuch as Hashem has been gracious to me, and inasmuch as I have everything.” This Posuk can be explained with a Moshol. Someone inherited one thousand gold coins from his father. He was young and naïve, and a group of people befriended him, and every evening they would invite him to a get together. There they would give him fancy wines to drink and had nice music playing, and once he was somewhat inebriated, they convinced him to play with dice, to gamble. Being that he was intoxicated, in addition to him not being a shrewd player, every night he would lose a hundred gold coins. They did this for ten nights, until he had no money left. They knew that they had left him without any money, and they said amongst themselves, that they should at least invite him for one night just for him to enjoy, despite that he had no more money and they would not make any money that night. They sent a messenger to him to invite him, and he sent back a message that he will not be attending. His wife asked him, “Why are you not going to the party tonight?” He responded, “What did I gain all those nights that I went there?” She responded, “Fool, had you realized that five nights ago, at least you would have had something left from the inheritance of your father. All those nights you went, you lost money. However, now that you already wasted away all your money, you may as well go tonight. Tonight, is the only night that actually makes sense for you to go, for at least you will get free food and drink – you no longer have anything to lose.” Similarly, here, when Eisav saw the gifts, he said that Yaakov probably hid arrows in the gifts, so that he could be harmed and he can somehow inherit. Therefore, Eisav said that he did not want to accept the gifts.
