“כה תאמר לבית יעקב ותגיד לבני ישראל. אתם ראיתם אשר עשיתי למצרים ואשא אתכם על כנפי נשרים ואבא אתכם אלי” – “So shall you say to the house of Yaakov and tell the sons of Yisroel. You have seen what I did to Mitzrayim, and that I carried you on the wings of eagles, and brought you to me.” When Hakodosh Boruch Hu gave us the Torah, He did not send Moshe Rabbeinu to tell Klal Yisroel that he was Mekabel the Torah, and that Hakodosh Boruch Hu told him to pass it on to them, and this is what it says. Hakodosh Boruch Hu didn’t make miracles and wonders occur so that Klal Yisroel should believe Moshe Rabbeinu – that he was a true Navi of Hakodosh Boruch Hu. Rather, Hakodosh Boruch Hu revealed Himself to the entire Klal Yisroel, from small to big, women and the elderly, all saw with their own eyes the Kovod of Hakodosh Boruch Hu, as they all had Nevuah at the time of Har Sinai. They saw as Nevi’im saw and they heard with their own ears the sound of Hakodosh Boruch Hu reciting the first two Dibros. They also heard Hakodosh Boruch Hu say that behold I am giving you the Torah which has Taryag Mitzvos through the messenger, Moshe, and all that he says you should do, and believe that it is from Me, for he is My messenger and is a true Navi. There was thunder and lightning, and fire that was seen from one side of the world to the other. There was a loud Shofar blown – Moshe Rabbeinu would speak and Hakodosh Boruch Hu would answer with sound. Klal Yisroel of that generation saw and heard, and knew without a doubt that Moshe Rabbeinu was a direct emissary of Hakodosh Boruch Hu, and he did nothing but pass on the words of Hakodosh Boruch Hu to Klal Yisroel. Every generation recounts this to their children, and their children to their children, until today’s generation – so that Emunah is rooted in the hearts of Klal Yisroel. Matan Torah of Hakodosh Boruch Hu giving the Torah Hakdoshah to Klal Yisroel was not based on intellect or miracles, rather it was knowing it as a fact, just as all can testify when a child is born from his mother – the child came from the mother, and all know that the woman who gave birth is the mother. This is what Shlomo Hamelech said in Mishlei 2:3 “כי אם לבינה תקרא” – the word “אם ” should be pronounced with a Tzairai under the Aleph, making it אם – mother. בינה refers to the Torah Hakdoshah. One should be sure about the source of the Torah Hakdoshah, like one is sure about his mother – one hundred percent certain. Specifically, the mother, and not the father, for who the father is can be assumed, but cannot be indisputably proven like who the mother is. It was a great Chesed of Hakodosh Boruch Hu that He gave us the Torah Hakdoshah in this way. For had it only been through miracles and signs that Moshe Rabbeinu proved he was a true Navi, people could come and falsely show miracles and signs, and uproot the Torah as we know it. Now that the Torah was given this way, we know that משה אמת ותורתו אמת and no one can change that.

There was a story where a king called his servant into his chambers and commanded him to do something the next day. Later on that day, one of the ministers of the king went to that same servant and told him that the king changed his mind, and told him to do something different than the king had told him. The servant told the minister: I am unable to accept your command, for you are but a messenger of the king, and I had heard a command directly from the mouth of the king which is contrary to what you are commanding me. The only way that I cannot follow the command that I heard directly from the king, is if the king himself tells me otherwise. So too here, if one were to come and tell us to do anything which is contrary to the Torah Hakdoshah, we tell him that we heard the initial commands directly from Hakodosh Boruch Hu, and the only way to change it would be to hear it again directly from Hakodosh Boruch Hu. Hakodosh Boruch Hu performed a great Chesed, “ואבא אתכם אלי” – Hakodosh Boruch Hu brought us to Him, he made it unequivocal to us that the Torah Hakdoshah through Moshe Rabbeinu is from Him, so that we never have any doubt to its veracity.
