דרך חיים למהר"ל על פרקי אבות על המשנה ה לֵּל ו שַמַּאי ק ב לוּ מֵּהֶם. ה לֵּל אומֵּר, הֱוֵּי מ תַל מ יד יו שֶל אַהֲרֹן, אוהֵּב ש לום ו רודֵּף ש לום, אוהֵּב אֶת הַב ר יות וּמ ק ר ב ן לַתור ה (א יב) אלו הם הזוג החמישי באו ללמד מוסר על עיקר גדול, כי העולם הזה הוא מסוגל למחלוקת ביותר מכל הדברים שבעולם, כי זה ענין העולם הזה שהוא עולם הפירוד והחלוק, לכך המחלוקת רגיל בעולם. ודבר זה תוכל להבין כי באותו יום שנברא העולם בא המחלוקת לעולם מן קין והבל, שמזה תראה כי המחלוקת מסוגל לעולם הזה בעבור כי העולם הזה הוא עולם החלוק והפירוד. לכך אמר כי ראוי שיהיה מחזיק בעולם ברדיפות שלום בין איש לחבירו, וכאשר יש בעולם הזה פירוד וחילוק, יהיה מדתו לחבר המחולקים וכמו שיתבאר.

Those Who Work on Birur HaMiddos Can Smell the “Rat” Of the Negi'os Behind Their Shitos R' Meir Stern Shlita quoted the Maharal in Pirkei Avos that there is a super strong Yetzer Hara to have Machlokes. A famous Adam Gadol came out against a certain group! He had once said something positive about those same people, and there were other Gedolim who liked that group. Yet, all people know and remember is the negative side. It’s by far more Geshmak, especially since... it’s “L'shem Shamayim”.
Of course, there may be certain negative sides that a person has to be wary of. But smart people who love Shalom and realize that their Yetzer Hara is getting involved, make sure to be first-class Am-Haratzim (ignoramuses) and somehow never hear about so much “juicy politics”. They prefer working on themselves, and Ligging in Torah and in Chesed.
Rabeinu Yonah spent half his life going from Bais Medrash to Bais Medrash saying B'rabim (in public) that he’s asking M’chila (forgiveness) for going against the Rambam (and this is why he wrote Shaarei Teshuva). Reb Gershon Liebman Zatzal once told me that he would go against a certain great person, but he suspects he has a Negi'a and he is jealous. Those who work on Birur HaMiddos can “smell the rat”, and realize how many of their Shitos are based in Kin'ah. But it’s hard to be: מו דֶ ה עַ ל ה אֶ מֶ ת admit the truth. It is a: ד ב ר פ שוּ ט obvious fact, that a person raised by Chasidim or Litvaks or Sephardim or Ashkenazim, etc. cannot be trusted if they go against the “other Shita (sect)”. They are all: נוֹגֵ עַ בְּ דָ בָ ר biased, since they were raised differently, and they don’t understand other people. Even if they have: ק"נ טַ עֲ מִּ ים 150 reasons based on Torah and Halacha, etc., they still are: פָ סוּל לְּ עֵ דוּת (disqualified from having an opinion).
TRUE STORY
A famous Chasidishe M'chanech came to speak for the then fledgling Lakewood Cheder. He mentioned the Bais HaLevi, and the Olam never forget this, and they loved it. A famous Litvishe Adam Gadol came into a famous Chasidishe shul, and: ב פ נֵּ י עַ ם ו עֵּ ד ה in front of everybody, he said about the Admor: אַ ש רֵּ י יולַ ד תו “fortunate is the one who gave birth to him!” The Chassidim never forgot this, and this Adam Gadol remains their great hero. Many, many, people are: פ סוּל ל עֵּ דוּת (disqualified from having an opinion) when כִי הַשֹּׁחַד יְעַוֵּר עֵּינֵּי חֲכָמִּים שופטים טז יט Your Negi'a causes you blindness.
