On the other hand, if one feels a pull and an attraction to the voca- tion itself, the trade pulls him, then it’s a sign from Shamayim that it was meant for him—as we have mentioned about rabbonim who were offered positions in faraway places, and they felt the ability to accomplish for Yiddishkeit in those places. They felt that they can express their kochos hanefesh in those locales, therefore it may be their shlichus on This World.
But it doesn’t necessarily need to be a rav. It can be a shochet or a mash- giach in a far-flung place, and it can be any sort of business. If a person feels that he’s good at it, and it’s a business to which he’s attracted, and he checks into the matter and finds that it wouldn’t diminish his yiras Shamayim, then he can be assured that this is the place for him.
Often, after a number of years, a person will see the reason he had to come to a certain place—sometimes after he leaves the place. But this is certain: When a person keeps his eyes open... he waits for a sign from Above... he davens for guidance and to be led on the proper path... then he can usually expect clarity for where to go.
