A meshulach once came from Eretz Yisroel to the city of Volozhin, and the Netziv zt'l greeted him warmly. He sat him down at his table and asked him how the Yidden in Eretz Yisroel were doing. The meshulach began to speak harshly about the new settlers, but the Netziv stopped him and said, "I don't want to hear anything bad about the holy land!"
The meshulach responded, "But what I am saying is true!"
The Netziv told him, "The meraglim also said things which were true, if not they would have been called 'the shakranim', rather than 'the meraglim'."
