Complementary Combination

The two qualities of אהבה, love and יראה, fear are deeply interconnected. Just as love is essential in any meaningful relationship, so too is fear. The ideal bond between a person and Hashem is woven from both threads—deep love and reverent awe. This duality is expressed in the Torah itself: ואהבת את ה' אלה-יך, and you should love Hashem your G-d and יך תירא-את ה' אלה, you shall fear Hashem your G-d.

This connection is hinted at in the very spelling of the words יראה and אהבה themselves. The first two letters of יראה are י,ר while the first two letters of אהבה are א,ה. This forms the word יראה. On the other hand, the final two letters of יראה are א,ה while the final two letters of אהבה are ב,ה. Collectively, they spell אהבה. This subtle linguistic symmetry reflects a deeper truth—love and fear are two complementary aspects of a greater whole.
