Questions To Rabbi Mandel
Question: Hello Rabbi Mandel,
I recently started listening to your shiurim. I know that you say “Bizyonos” are good, but I'm feeling that my Bizyonos are over the top! If anyone wants Bizyonos, I recommend becoming a Limudei-Chol teacher at a cheder.
I'm a Limudei-Chol teacher at a cheder. Often, I come home crying from the chutzpa and Bizyonos I have to deal with. This is aside from the humble salaries of a teacher. Yesterday, my landlord called me to inform me that he's raising my rent. I went into complete anxiety mode.
Please help me out.
Answer: First of all, you should do Hishtadlus to get rid of the chutzpa in the classroom, it’s not acceptable. The Menahel has to be tough and come down hard against the kids, he has to kick-out kids. The school has Achrayus over their English teachers, and most important, it’s not good for the kids too, when they are around all this chutzpa daily.
Now, it’s very important for you to work on self-esteem. This will make it easier for you, and you won’t be brought down by any misbehaving. When you have worked on your own self-esteem, the discipline will be easier for you because the kids will feel that you aren’t a push over. You need to learn the balance of being tougher, yet nicer. It’s called “tough love”.
The main thing is that you shouldn’t be worrying. Laugh off the chutzpadik kids, and landlord upping the rent as much as possible, and this will get rid of problems. Laughing at your issues will help rid of them.
