On the Parsha

Novardok weekly | December 10, 2025

The last verse of the parsha tells us that one who follows the Torah will see success in all of his endeavors, as the gemara explains in Masechta Avoda Zara (19b).

Asks the Zera Shimshon: We know that every verse in the Torah is related one to the other—so what does the next verse, in which Moshe Rabbeinu tells us how we are all standing before Hashem, have to do with this verse, which discusses the success which one has through following Hashem and His Torah?

Says the Zera Shimshon: What is the reason that one who follows Hashem and His Torah sees such great success in all that he does? Isn't the Next World the primary place of reward (see Kiddushin 39b, and also Rambam in his Laws of Returning to Hashem Chapter 9)?

Answers the Zera Shimshon: The "success" we are discussing here is of a different type, and not regular "reward". Rather, it is the simple result of one who sticks close to Hashem! When one sticks close to Hashem, he wins! (And that is what the next verse is discussing, how we are all standing right before Hashem.) Amazing! (And spread the vort to whomever may enjoy it!)
