On Rosh Hashanah, a person has to be wise by thinking only good thoughts – that Hashem will do good for us, and so on. And a person should be happy on Rosh Hashanah. Also, a person should cry on Rosh Hashanah.
On the first day of Rosh Hashanah, a person should limit his speech very much. And [Rebbe Nachman] said that a great person must be very careful to do this. Therefore, on the first day, [Rebbe Nachman] didn’t recite the payit, except those that were written by Rebbe Eliezer HaKalir. But the rest of the payit he didn’t say, since a great person needs to be very careful not to speak any words that are not necessary.
