14 Adar II

5736-1976, during a Purim farbrengen, the Rebbe proudly reported on an event that happened that day: A group of chasidim, with military escort, were on their way to put on a Purim celebration for the IDF soldiers stationed in Shechem. When they encountered a guarded blockade in the road, which frightened their driver, the chasidim persuaded him to continue driving and break through the blockade so the soldiers could experience Purim. Although the escorting soldiers had to shoot into the air to scare off the Arabs who wanted to stop them, nobody was hurt. This is a living example, the Rebbe concluded, that when a Jew knows that he is G-d’s messenger to fulfill the dictates of the Torah, no enemy can stop him, and furthermore, they will come to respect him.
