Dovid Was Known as the One Who Sang Over His Torah

A Yid has to be a “shtick” (one piece of) thankfulness. Dovid was not called a Masmid, despite his tremendous Hasmada. He loved Torah, he loved learning day and night. He was known as: נְעִים זְמִרוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל ש"ב כג א the sweet singer of Israel. What is the sweet singer of Israel? Says R' Zundel of Salant¹¹, he used to sing and thank Hashem for the Torah that he learned. He wasn't known to be THE Masmid. He was the one who sang over his Torah.

Look who were his contemporaries. Doeg HaEdomi, Achitofel, Y'ravam ben Nevat, Shaul (who was a Tzadik, but still) none of them had his thankfulness. All of them were giants in learning. Avner, Yoav; these are all giants in learning. But nobody had the thankfulness that Dovid had. His very name: נְעִים זְמִרוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל ש"ב כג א “the sweet singer" (which is his very essence) was thank you, thank you, I love you; that's all he talked about and that's all he thought about. He didn't have room in his system except for thank you's.
