Rav Naftali Amsterdam - (1832-1916), Lithuania, Yerushalayim; One of the foremost disciples of Rav Yisrael Salanter, founder of the Mussar movement. Known for his humility, piety, and self-discipline, he served as rabbi in various communities including Helsinki and Novograd. His life exemplified Mussar ideals of constant self-examination, ethical refinement, and devotion to Torah. Along with Rabbis Itzele Blazer and Simcha Zissel Ziv, he became one of the three primary transmitters of his teacher’s legacy, helping to spread Mussar throughout the Jewish world.
