David Weiss from Beverley Hills in California once told of his conversation with the Rebbe .
I don’t look like one of your disciples. I don't dress like them. I'm not even very observant , I’m clearly not a chabadnik . But I would be interested to know what would it take for me to become a Chosid of yours ? What would I need to do that You would be proud to call me your student ?
Without skipping a beat The Rebbe looked at him and said I’ll tell you the criteria. A human being who at the end of the day, can look in the mirror and say, today from when I woke up , I tried to challenge myself to grow and even advance one step in my authenticity, in my truth, in my Yiddishkeit, in my Torah , my mitzvah, my compassion , my good deeds , I tried to advance even one step . These are the words this person tells himself or herself before he goes to bed. Such a person , I will call my Chosid.
