The Primary Pleasure of Closeness to Hashem

The Primary Pleasure

It must be pointed out that the source of this feeling of satisfaction, completion, and perfection stems from the pleasure of אלוקים קרבת. Technically speaking, even when a person factually has everything he could ever want, it doesn’t necessarily bring him pleasure. But when a person recognizes that the world can be a frightening place, but that the Ribbono shel Olam always looks out for him and gives him what he needs, he derives great pleasure from this security. He derives great joy from knowing that the Ribbono shel Olam knows what he needs and provides it to him because He loves him. Thus, this person’s joy really stems from closeness to Hashem—brought about by feeling that he has everything he needs.

So long as a person feels like he’s lacking, he can’t properly feel קרבת אלוקים. Only when he feels that he has everything can he feel the pleasure of closeness to Hashem.
