Saved in the Merit of Shemiras Halashon

Saved in the Merit of Shemiras Halashon:

I heard the following incredible story from the protagonist himself:

Around a year ago, there was a Yid who was suffering from numerous problems and challenges. He tried his luck with all sorts of segulos and amulets, and traveled to many mekubalim to obtain their blessing. He spent a lot of money on these things, but none worked.

He finally realized that this was not the way he would find his salvation. Rather, he recognized that he needed to make a change in himself if he wanted Hashem to come to his aid.

At that time, he “just happened” to come across a passage in Sefer Chofetz Chaim where he quotes a Medrash that says that even if a person has done mitzvos and good deeds, if he speaks lashon hara his zechusim cannot protect him from harm.

When he saw this, he accepted upon himself to learn two halachos from Sefer Chofetz Chaim every day and to try to guard his mouth from speaking lashon hara. He also accepted not to speak any mundane words in the bais medrash during davening for the span of 40 days.

When he looked at the calendar, he saw that the 40 days would end during the week of Parshas Shelach. One of his problems was that he could not find a shidduch for his daughter, no matter how hard he tried. He hoped that in the merit of his kabbalah, the verse of “shelach lecha anashim” would be fulfilled for him and he could send his daughter out of his home and into her own.

And so it was. During the course of the 40 days, he saw yeshuos from all of his problems and, at the end of that time period, his daughter got engaged.
