Righteousness and Judgment in Torah and Chassidus

And as has been explained in many places in Chassidus, in its elucidation of the Possuk “to perform righteousness and justice” (לַעֲשוֹת צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפָּט).

In Torah Ohr Beshalach 63.3 the Alter Rebbe says: The Possuk says judgment and righteousness You made in Yaakov, in other words as a result of the judgment and righteousness of Yaakov was made You symbolising a divine revelation. However, in this righteousness it also says judgement like another Possuk says to perform righteousness and justice and our Possuk of judgment and righteousness in Yaakov because it is not enough just to arouse the Supernal state of kindness and goodness of Hashem blessed be He alone because it will arise Hashem’s infinite state of all things equal .... Allowing the other side and external forces to suckle from the light ... so that is why we also need to arouse Hashem’s judgement so that the vitality should only go on the side of holiness. But the external forces and the other side still try and suckle and that they are able to get from the extra part of one’s nails which are too long or from the extra part of one’s hair.... And the judgement on our part to Hashem is arousing oneself from below in the reevaluating one’s own extras from one’s own life to see how much one gives to charity because our Sages only said that one’s own life takes precedence over another’s when one’s life is at stake for example when there is only enough water for one person to survive. But anything that is extra in your life takes second place to someone else’s necessities. And when a person takes this judgement and gives up one’s extras one causes a judgement above that there won’t be any extra vitality going to the wrong places. And for this we praise and bless Hashem that He loves righteousness and judgement.

What Hashem says in Vayeira 18.19 about Avrohom Ovinu: כִּי יְדַעְתִּיו לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁׁר יְצַוֶּׁה אֶׁת בָנָיו וְאֶׁת בֵיתוֹ אַחֲרָיו וְשָׁמְרוּ דֶׁרֶׁך ה׳ לַעֲשוֹת צְדָקָה וּמִּשְׁפָט לְמַעַן הָבִּיא ה׳ עַל אַבְרָהָם אֵת אֲשֶׁׁר דִּבֶׁר עָלָיו - For I have known him because he commands his sons and his household after him, that they should keep the way of the Lord to perform righteousness and justice, in order that the Lord bring upon Abraham that which He spoke concerning him.
