Thanking for the Ikkar Not Just for the Tafeil

Havineini | June 27, 2025

This manner of thanking for ruchniyus comes only after a person begins to see the real world. And through this manner of praise, he is brought closer to the Ribbono shel Olam, because it is true; now you’re speaking sensibly!

Suppose a father gave his son chocolate, and the child begins to thank him effusively for giving him the chocolate wrapped in red wrapper. He doesn’t give thanks for the chocolate itself, but for the red wrapper. “I was so nervous that my brother would get the red and I would get the blue. Now I am filled with gratitude,” he says.

Now, all praise is precious to the Ribbono shel Olam... even for the smallest things. But if you want to know what will truly invoke auspiciousness, Divine Will, and an רֵצון עִת—it is the praise and thanks for the “real things.” Because then you indicate that you truly appreciate the goodness that Hashem channels to you.
