The Eternality of the Chanukah Lamps and the Future Redemption

May we very soon arrive at a time where the adage ‘These lamps will never become obsolete’ comes to fruition, which refers both to the Chanukah lamps and also refers to the source and root of the Chanukah lamps, the original lamps in the Beis Hamikdosh.

And moreover, as there were only seven lamps on the Menorah in the Beis Hamikdosh, yet on Chanukah we light eight lamps, thereafter will we attain the revelation of the number ten which will happen in the future, as the Possuk states “Upon a ten-stringed harp”.

Ramban beginning Parshas Beha’alosecho

Which goes on the four letters of Hashem’s name Havaya. Including all the details of Yiddishkeit.

But the Chanukah lamps also incorporate the concept of self-sacrifice.

Talmud in Erchin 13B states: Rabbi Yehuda continues: .... the harp that will be played in the World-to-Come will have ten strings, as it is stated: .... Tehilim 92.4. עֲ לֵי עָשוֹר וַעֲלֵי נָבֶל עֲלֵי הִּגָיוֹן בְכִּנּוֹר - Upon a ten-stringed harp and upon a psaltery, with speech upon a harp.... This indicates that in the World-to-Come, which is comparable to Shabbos, songs of praise to Hashem will be played on a ten-stringed instrument, identified here as both a lyre and a harp. And similarly, another verse states: “Give thanks unto Hashem with the harp; sing praises unto Him with the lyre of ten strings. Sing unto Him a new song” (Tehilim 33:2–3), which is referring to the new song that will be sung only in the World-to-Come.

As opposed to the world now where the number seven is prevalent.

And as it has been explained in several places regarding the future: Everything will be associated with the number ten, which is an absolute and complete number. And then when Moshiach comes there will be the ultimate ascent in all things, in a manner of going from level to level from strength to strength, until we will reach a day which is entirely Shabbos and tranquillity. To a life of eternality, with happiness and with gladness of heart.
