True Enjoyment in Life

Ba'er Heitev | December 31, 2025

In the time of the Kedushas Levi of Berditchev ZY”A there lived a Poritz – Count by the name of Graf Potoski. He was known for his indulgent in mundane pleasures. Once during the summer, he “decided” that he wants to go sledding. A technical problem existed, that it was the summer and there was no snow to sled on. His servants, eager to please the will of the count hauled large sacks of sugar and spread them across the field and so the count filled his lust for sledding during the summer.
Word of this reached the Heilige Kedushas Levi, who asked his Chassidim “Did he ever light Ner Chanukoh?” to which they unrestingly answered in the negative. “If so, he has never had a true enjoyment in his life, all of his temptations do not reach the pleasure I have from lighting one Chanukoh Licht (light).”
On a similar note, the Poritz in the area of the Beis Aharon of Karlin ZY”A, acted in a similar fashion. Upon hearing this the Beis Aharon exclaimed, “All of his Teivos (temptations) in his whole life do not reach the pleasure I have of once saying Nishmas on one Shabbos.”
As we are Zoche to have the great times, within immediate days of Chanukoh, Shabbos, Rosh Chodesh, Hallel, Zemiros of Chanukah, which make every meal a Seudas Mitzvoh. The just recent starting of recitation of Visein Tal Umotor in weekday Shemonoh Esrei in Chutz Lo’Oretz, and going to Tzadikim, we can surely aspire to reach greater heights and the glow of Chanukoh shall lead us to the ultimate Geuloh Shleima Omein.
