The following are a number of points the Rebbe mentioned regarding the added simchah of Chodesh Adar (Mishenichnas Adar marbim besimchah):
- Increase in learning Torah and doing mitzvos, which “gladden the heart.”
- Additionally, add in simchah in the literal sense (following the guidelines of Shulchan Aruch).
- Bring simchah to others, beginning with your family members (husbands should bring simchah to their wives, and parents should bring simchah to their children, as detailed in Shulchan Aruch regarding Yom Tov).
- Each subsequent day of the month, add in simchah even more.
- The earlier, and the more, one increases in simchah the better.
- Preparations for mivtza Purim should begin in advance. At the latest, they should start on Rosh Chodesh Adar.
- Purim preparations also include studying the halachos of Purim and maamarim related to Purim.
- Chodesh Adar is a time to give additional tzedakah.
