One Who Gives to Others, Will Not Lose
The Ohev Yisroel of Apta zy”a (quoted in Sefer Medrash Pinchos) explains this pasuk by citing the verse in Devarim (33:18): “Zevulun shall rejoice in his goings and Yissochor in his tents.” He asks how Yissochor could give up some of his indescribable reward in Olam Haba that he earns through learning Torah, and give it to Zevulun in exchange for monetary support in Olam Hazeh. He answers that we must say that Yissochor did not give up any of his reward in Olam Haba. He explains that the partnership between Yissochor and Zevulun was like lighting one candle from another. The second candle gets lit but the first one does not lose any of its light. So too, Zevulun got his own reward for helping Yissochor, while Yissochor retained his full reward.
With this in mind, he explains the pasuk that says that “everyone’s holy things will be to himself” to mean that if someone gives a portion of his holy endeavors to someone else who supports him, he should not think that he is losing anything. Rather, it will still always be his. The Ohev Yisroel adds that the same idea applies when one gives his money to help a talmid chochom. He should not think that he is giving something away, as he will receive a bracha to retain as much as he had before, while also benefiting from the mitzvah he did.
