The Role of Jewish Children in Purim

Rebbe Responsa | June 27, 2025

Purim Youth Rally
5596 Park Avenue
Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Greeting and Blessing:
I was pleased to be informed about your rally in connection with the forthcoming Purim.

I hope you know what an important part Jewish children had in bringing about the miracle of Purim which we celebrate every year and which we will soon celebrate again.

Our sages tell us that when the intention of the wicked Haman became known twenty-two thousand Jewish children rallied around Mordechai who began to teach them the Torah. So attached did the children become to Mordechai and to the Torah and Mitzvoth that they were ready to share his fate, and were prepared to give their very lives. We are told that even Haman, who had no real knowledge of the value and holiness of the Torah, realized at once that his wicked plans must fail in view of such loyalty and devotion of the Jewish children to their true leaders and to their faith.

I hope that the story of Purim and the part played in it by the Jewish children will inspire every one of you to similar devotion and loyalty to the Torah and Mitzvoth and, for your sake, that all our people will be blessed, together with you, in the words of the Megillah, with "light, joy, gladness and honor".

Wishing you all and all your leaders a happy and inspiring Purim,
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
