People Who Accomplish Great Things Are Those Who Are Not Nispael

Bitachon Weekly | June 25, 2025

Both Dovid and Pinchos ignored all that hurtful criticism, and stepped forward to kill in order to defend Kavod Shamayim. We have a lot to learn from them, since we all have so much flak (internal or external) constantly telling us: "You aren't worthy!" "Don't be a big shot." Both Dovid and Pinchos were M'kayem the Mishna in Pirkei Avos: הֱוֵי עַז כַנָמֵר לַעֲשוֹת רְׂ צוֹן אָבִיךָ שֶּבַשָמָיִם אבות ה כ Be bold as a “leopard” to do the will of your loving Father in Shamayim. Both were not Nis'pael (like Novardokers). And indeed, those who are Nis'pael don't accomplish much.

A: נָמֵר leopard is a Mamzer, a cross between a lion and tiger (Bartenura), and sometimes you have to act like a fearless low “Mamzer” to do Ratzon Hashem. Say: “Yes, I am a low life zero, but I still have to stick up for Kavod Shamayim”; or to be outgoing when it's against your nature, when Klal Yisroel needs you.

He did not conceal the sins of his relative, this refers to Pinchos, who was from Shevet Levi, and although Zimri came from Shimon who was older, yet he killed Zimri so there shouldn't be a: חֶּרְׂ פָה mockery on Klal Yisroel. (Medrash). And this is exactly what Dovid told Golyas HaPelishti: וְׂאָנֹכִי בָא אֵלֶּיךָ בְׂשֵם ה' צְׂ -בָאוֹת אֱלֹקֵ י מַעַרְׂ כוֹת יִשְׂ רָאֵל אֲשֶּר חֵרַפְׂתָּ ש"א יז מה I fight you in the name of Hashem who is the power of the Yidden whom you mocked. Dovid put Golyas in his place when he used sticks and stones, which are used for killing dogs.

And of course, Pinchos was obviously M'vazeh Zimri big-time. Both ignored the Bizayon and pain they had to go through in order to protect Kavod Shamayim. They both realized the greatness of Hashem, and didn't mind their own Bizyonos or risking their lives.
